چکیده

469 Abstract: The production and detection of a mannoprotein adhesin (MPA) of the hyphalform cells of C. albicans on plastic petri dishes was investigated. Using Concanavalin A-coated latex microspheres, the MPA was detected on the plastic surface on which C. albicans produced germ tubes. The adhesin was extracted using dithiothreitol and iodoacetamide. It did not inhibit the adhesion of the yeast-form C. albicans to buccal epithelial cells (BEC). This suggested that the MPA of the hyphal-form cells on the plastic was different from that on the yeast cells responsible for attachment to the BECs.

Candida albicans Increases Tumor Cell Adhesion to Endothelial Cells In Vitro: Intraspecific Differences and Importance of the Mannose Receptor

The dimorphic fungus Candida albicans is able to trigger a cytokine-mediated pro-inflammatory response that increases tumor cell adhesion to hepatic endothelium and metastasis. To check the intraspecific differences in this effect, we used an in vitro murine model of hepatic response against C. albicans, which made clear that tumor cells adhered more to endothelium incubated with blastoconidia,...

Identification of protein and mannoprotein antigens of Candida albicans of relevance for the serodiagnosis of invasive candidiasis.

Antigens from Candida albicans blastoconidia and germ tubes were identified by two-dimensional electrophoresis and Western blotting and characterized by microsequencing, reactivity with concanavalin A, and a panel of human sera. Antigens identified included a polydispersed area in the acidic high-molecular-mass regions of blastoconidium and germ-tube extracts, and 16 antigens varying in molecul...

Interactions of Candida albicans yeast cells, germ tubes and hyphae with human polymorphonuclear leucocytes in vitro.

Suspensions of Candida albicans yeast cells, germ tubes and hyphae with biomass standardized by ATP measurement were compared for their relative susceptibilities to phagocytosis and intracellular killing by human polymorphonuclear leucocytes. All three forms were ingested to a similar extent, but significantly fewer yeast cells were killed intracellularly after ingestion than were filamentous f...

Assessment of germ tube dispersion activity of serum from experimental candidiasis: a new procedure for serodiagnosis.

Germ tubes of Candida albicans and C. stellatoidea clump in normal serum but disperse in serum from animals infected with either species of Candida. A new procedure for the assessment of grades of germ tube dispersion activity of serum is presented; this procedure is to count the number of freely dispersed germ tubes in test serum into which a definite number of yeast-type C. albicans has been ...

Germ tube and chlamydospore formation by Candida albicans on a new medium.

A new medium composed of "cream of rice" infusion, oxgall, Tween 80, and agar is described for the sequential development of germ tubes and chlamydospores by Candida albicans. The procedure used (Dalmau's technique) is an improvement over the fluid substrate procedures previously advocated for germ tube formation. That the same preparation is then used for chlamydospore production is of practic...
